What a commotion there was at Wootton Bassett when the interval arrived and Ferndale were leading 1-0 after Dave Woods scored his 12th minute goal. Ferndale deserved their lead. They had been playing good football. But understandably they seemed to lose heart a little once Wootton Bassett went in front in the second half and finally lost 1-5. It was bringing on Tommy Gardiner on for the second half that made all the difference to Wootton Bassett's play. He initiated raid after raid, saw Graham Reid equalise, supplied passes for goals by Derek Powell and Roy Blackburn, cheered Russell's goal and then up the fifth goal for Blackburn to score.
