Bassett u15 continue winning run

Bassett u15 Blues continued their unbeaten start to the season with a solid 2-0 cup victory against Kingsdown Lions u15.

It has been a very encouraging start to the season for Bassett Blues who registered a successive clean sheet and had it not been for profligacy in front of goal would have won by a far wider margin.

Parker Fisher opened the scoring, showing remarkable strength to turn the defender before he clinically placed a deft finish out of the 'keepers reach. From this point the tone of the match was set and Bassett Blues continued to press throughout the first half. Notable chances included a Fisher lob, a powerful Lynch header from a corner and a lovely effort from Sam Smith that hit the post.

Failure to put the game beyond doubt was a concern for the vocal home crowd and their concerns were briefly justified early in the second half when Kingsdown broke promisingly only to be halted by a crunching tackle from Tomas Jerram, who continued his flawless start to the season with Bassett Blues.

Fisher continued to cause problems for Kingsdown and this eventually resulted in a second goal from a spell of Bassett pressure as Fisher smashed the ball past the 'keeper from close range.

Such is the control of the Bassett defence this season that goalkeeper Tom Davis, frequently the hero in previous seasons, has rarely been called into action. He was however on 65 minutes as the Kingsdown striker broke clear only to run out of space after rounding Davis who had swiftly left his line at the first sign of trouble.

Both Finlay Marshall and Ed Greenouff had chances to put the final result beyond doubt but neither were able to find the net. The Bassett management team urged the team to retain their shape but in reality Kingsdown never looked like getting back into the game.

After the match Captain Jamie Black said 'I am delighted with the result, I thought we need sharpness in front of goal but I am pleased with the chances we created. I think this year we can go far in both this cup competition and the league'

Next Up is a home game verses Stratton Youth U15
