An Early Burst Sets Bassett On Their Way

After the disappointment of the Chippenham result, Bassett looked to get back to winning ways with a trip to FC Abbey Meads Youth Puprle, a team which they beat in a pre-season friendly a couple of weeks ago. With two goals in the opening three minutes, it certainly set them on their way and set the flow of the game.

After some good passing, Sam Warner opened the scoring after just 45 seconds when he received the ball 10 yards out from a Harvey Watkinson pass and curled the ball into the far corner off of the post. Minutes later, Taiga Matsushima rounded the Abbey Meads goalkeeper and looked to make it 2-0, when the keeper pulled him back before he had a chance to get his shot away. Ethan Price stepped up and score the resulting penalty to the keeper's right (3min).

Another quick burst saw more goals go in for Sam Warner (9min), Ethan Price (14min), Tiaga Matsushima (16min) and Harvey Watkinson (19min). Full of confidence, Bassett set to kill the game off further when Sam Warner completed his hat-trick after only 25 minutes, slotting the ball into the bottom left corner. The introduction of two subs straight after didn't seem to dampen the flow of the game, when Ellie O'Nions and Tom Dubarry, who replaced Sam Warner and Ethan Price respectively, combined after on being on the pitch for 20 seconds. Ellie took on the defender and crossed well into the box, for Tom to smash the ball into the Abbey Meads net.

Harvey Watkinson scored again (29min) and Alex Roberts got his debut goal (35mins) to take the score to 10-0 at half time.

The second half started as the first half had ended, with Tom Dubarry scoring again 45 seconds into the second half, as Bassett started to move the ball around again. Alex Roberts took advantage of some space inside the Abbey Meads box and got his second of the game (55min).

Spurred on by the increasing score, yet another quick burst of goals saw Bassett increase their scoreline further, with Joey Warren getting his first of the game (65min) and Ethan Price completing his hat-trick (67mins) when he volleyed the ball twelve yards out and it went in off the underside of the bar.

Bassett were awarded their second penalty of the game in the 70th minute, which goalkeeper Aidan Francis raced up the field to take. He dispatched the kick with ease to take the score to 15.

Two more goals in the closing stages of the game from Joey Warren (73min) and Taiaga Matsushima (76min) rounded off the scoring and ensured that the Bassett team recorded their 17-0 record win in the North Wilts League.
