14 ‒ 3 |
Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 14 Yellows battled hard against newcomers to the league, Liden Community. However strong challenges and a fighting attitude didn't prove worthy enough as they were defeated by large margins.
Finlay Marshall, on form, scored a hat-trick to bring back three goals for Bassett and Lucia Green, rising star, deservedly was awarded Player Of The Match award for a strong performance against a tough side.
The first half began as a battle of 'goal tennis' as each side battled hard to get a foot ahead of each other. Towards the end of the first half, tiredness was the killer for Bassett as they suffered by conceding three late goals.
The second half proved to be much more in Bassett's favour. Despite only scoring one extra goal, which secured Finlay Marshall his hat-trick, Bassett won every individual battle and proved to be more dominant in the physical aspect of this game.
Unfortunately, Bassett just weren't as clinical as Liden in the final third. However manager Josh Carey stated: "Despite a huge defeat, we still battled hard and were the better side all round. We know where we need to work on, and if we approach both training and matchdays like we did today, we could turn things around before losing becomes another bad habit this season."
