Yellows fight back to trap the Tigers

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Veterans Yellow turned around a 2-0 deficit to gain a point against Trowbridge Tigers. They enjoyed an equal footing during the first-half but the Tigers took their chances whereas Yellows couldn't provide the finish needed.

Ian Mitchell, Tony Skeates and Jeremy Smith looked obdurate as a back three, with Parr and Rob Mitchell looking to cause damage down the flanks. Chris Cooper and Jim Benyon anchored in midfield with Bryan Watson providing the vision behind Andy Huggins and Tim Lewis. John Stack, Carl Johnson and Kev Currier were able deputies.

Skeates was nearly decapitated by a high challenge as the Yellows grappled with their opponents. However, midway through the first half, Bassett committed a foul in midfield, for which the referee played a good advantage as the ball was played through to the Trowbridge striker and their most dangerous player finished smoothly past Sean Boyle, deputising in goal. Ten minutes later, the same player surged down the right and his low cross was bundled in at the back post to make it 2-0 to the team in orange.

Bassett sparked into life, and Huggins passed up a great opportunity when one-on-one, hitting straight at the keeper when he seemed to be moving out the way! But he made no mistake on the stroke of half time, a delicious Watson through-ball finding him in acres of space and this time he thumped a finish in off the post to reduce the arrears to 2-1.

In the second half the Yellows were indebted to some fine stops from Boyle, manoeuvring nimbly to repel all-comers! And the Yellows grabbed an equaliser, a throw in on the left found Watson and he dribbled through the challenges and capped a fine individual goal with a calm finish.

Neither side was able to secure a winner and a draw ended up being a fair reflection on the game.

The Yellows now look forward to kicking off the Super Sunday festival with a 10am kick off against Stratton Juniors - the more the merrier.

Man of the match: Sean Boyle - made numerous saves in the second half that paved the way for the Yellows' comeback. Fortunately he had only one Harlem Globetrotters moment!
