Royals comeback quashes Under 18s' cup hopes

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 18s' hopes of North Wilts League Cup success were dashed as Shrivenham Royal came from a goal down to win by the odd goal in three in the County Ground showpiece.

Jack Graham gave Bassett the lead at the home of Swindon Town early in the second half as he pounced on a mistake by the Shrivenham 'keeper.

However, Shrivenham - the undefeated Division Two champions who had defeated Division One title winners Fairford Town Youth in the semi final - came back to crown themselves as cup kings. Shortly after conceding, Nick Moore volleyed in unmarked from a free kick. Josh Tyler then prodded in at the far post after a long throw into the box had been flicked on.

While it may be seen as another blow for Bassett after they missed out on runners-up spot in Division One following defeat in their final league game of their season, the team should look back on their campaign as have been an extremely successful season one.

On top of making the North Wilts League Cup final, many of the players were part of the team who romped to success in the Wiltshire Floodlit League North Division, while a handful have also gained experience in senior Wiltshire League football with the reserves and Hellenic League Premier Division football with the first team.
