Bassett started the game the quicker of the two sides and within the first five minutes were creating some good chances. Machell and Colin Davies grabbed control of the centre of the park, and the latter was key in starting a lot of Bassett's moves that led to chances. On the half Hour Scott Weston received the ball from goalkeeper Fuller and played a cross field ball to Viveash. He carried the ball over the halfway line, played a one two with Scott, and crossed the ball for Taylor to score Bassett's first. From that point on Bassett didn't look back and dominated the game creating a lot of chances, but they could not find the back of the net just the conifers behind the goal and the woodwork. Bassett though did add two more before the break from Simon Jones and a thumping drive from the barrel from Paul Burke.

Bassett started the second half as they finished the first by creating even more chances, but it was the same old story the woodwork denying Jones & Taylor, Viveash kept the birds from resting in the trees behind the goal, and Machell kept firing straight at the keeper. Clanfield came back into the game with 20 mins to go and Tom Fuller made some good saves to keep Bassett a clean sheet and a well-earned victory.
