Weekend preview: Forest Green test in final friendly

Tuesday 23rd July 2024

Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Men's First Team complete their preparation for the 2024-25 Hellenic League Premier Division campaign this Saturday - and their final friendly is a huge one for the club as non league giants Forest Green Rovers visit the Sustain Stadium (3pm kick off).

The contest will pit Bassett against National League opposition and will therefore be a serious test of Sam Collier's side's quality and fitness.

Despite the gulf in level between the teams, both Bassett and Forest Green have big ambitions as they aim to finish at the top end of their respective divisions.

Bassett will be striving to build on consecutive top five finishes as they push for another playoff finish and a tilt at promotion to the Southern League.

With the experienced Steve Cotterill at the helm, Rovers go into the season seeking an immediate return to the EFL after consecutive relegations saw them slip from League One into to the National League. Signalling their intent, Rovers have made numerous impressive signings over the summer, who are set to be on display on Saturday.

Admission for the fixture is £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members.

A large crowd is expected, so please do arrive in good time.

The club looks forward to welcoming Forest Green's players, officials and supporters and we hope they enjoy their visit to the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground.

The Women's First Team are also in action this weekend as they take to the field for the first of their handful of friendlies as Adam Wood's side travel to Cardiff Met on Sunday (2pm kick off).

Pitting Bassett against opponents from the Adran Premier League - the top tier of women's football in Wales - the contest represents the chance for Bassett to test themselves against high quality opponents.

Meanwhile, the Development team are in Friday night friendly action away against Devizes Town Reserves (7.30pm).
