Weekend preview: Bassett set for regular season Swans-song

Wednesday 10th April 2024

Royal Wootton Bassett Town play their final game of the 2023-24 Hellenic League Premier Division regular season on Saturday. And Bassett will be hoping their visit to Slimbridge (3pm kick off) delivers another three points - and a potential home playoff semi final tie.

Facing a Swans team who are also set to be in the playoff mix, the teams could realistically meet again in the semi finals. And Sam Collier and his team will be doing all they can to make sure that game takes place on home turf.

They will also be aiming for a season double against Slimbridge, after coming from behind to record a 2-1 when the teams met way back in Bassett's opening fixture of the league season in August.

To record maximum points against their opponents though, Bassett will have to do something they have never done before - win away at Thornhill Park. Four previous league visits have all ended in defeat with Bassett scoring just a single goal across those fixtures back in October 2004.

It's an important game for both teams - all support Bassett can receive as they visit Gloucestershire will be greatly appreciated!

Also this Saturday, the Development team hit the road to take on in form Trowbridge Town (3pm kick off) in the Wiltshire League Premier Division.

Mark Simpkins' team were 3-2 winner when they hosted the Bees in an October thriller.

A season double is therefore up for grabs - with Bassett also hoping to widen the gap to Trowbridge who still have multiple games in hand to play.
