Weekend preview: Tricky treble

Wednesday 31st January 2024

There's a trio of testing fixtures for Royal Wootton Bassett Town's senior sides this weekend.

On Sunday the Women's First Team come up against fellow South West Regional Women's Football League Division One Eastern high flyers Stockwood Wanderers (2pm kick off) for the first of two potentially decisive fixtures against their rivals.

The game is Bassett's second visit to Stockwood this season after a 7-2 Women's FA Cup triumph.

The scoreline that day did somewhat flatter Bassett, with their clinical finishing being the key difference. Make no mistake, Bassett will be have to be at their best this time round as they aim for an important away win.

Prior to that Saturday sees the Men's First Team visit Hellenic League Premier Division playoff contenders Roman Glass St George for the second fixture between the teams in less than 72 hours (3pm kick off).

After triumphing 1-0 at home, Bassett will be aiming to complete a season double over the Bristol-based opponents as they compete for position.

In the Wiltshire League Premier Division the Development team visit title hopefuls Amesbury Town (2.15pm kick off).

Mark Simpkins' team pushed Amesbury all the way before falling to a narrow 4-3 defeat when they met back in September.
