Weekend preview: Bassett face crucial Stockwood test

Wednesday 6th December 2023

Royal Wootton Bassett Town's South West Regional Women's Football League Division One Eastern promotion hopes face an important test on Sunday when Adam Wood and his team visit fellow high-flyers Stockwood Wanderers (2pm kick off).

Both teams are vying with Poole Town and Bath City in an intriguing, open title race and will be looking to deliver a dent in each other's chances of claiming top spot.

Bassett will be aiming for a repeat of their visit to Stockwood in the Women's FA Cup earlier this season when they recorded a 7-2 victory.

The scoreline that day did somewhat flatter Bassett, with their clinical finishing being the key difference. Make no mistake, Bassett will be have to be at their best this time round as they aim for an important away win.

Prior to that Saturday sees a home doubleheader.

The Men's First Team face a challenge of their own when they welcome Pershore Town to the Sustain Stadium (3pm kick off).

The Plums' first ever visit to Bassett, they triumphed 3-2 when the teams met in Worcestershire earlier in the campaign. Sam Collier's side will therefore be seeking to avenge that loss against their fellow playoff hopefuls.

Admission is £7 for adults, £4 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members.

Meanwhile, in the Wiltshire League Premier Division the Development team welcome Pewsey Vale (AGP, 2pm kick off).

Bassett suffered a 4-2 defeat in the reverse fixture - and Mark Simpkins' team will therefore be aiming to avoid a double defeat against their opponents.

Admission is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members.
