Royal Wootton Bassett Town Football Club is aware of members receiving emails claiming to be from the club email addresses of chairman Andy Walduck and other committee members, which are in fact spoofs.
It is understood that many of the emails are inviting individuals to follow a link and purchase gift cards.
Anyone receiving such emails is encouraged to ignore them, not to click on any links contained within the emails and to delete them immediately.
There is, unfortunately, nothing that can be done to prevent others from pretending to send emails from club email addresses (or any address for that matter).
However, one method of checking the veracity of an email sender is to find the 'mail from' address (i.e. the true identity of the sender). If the email is a spoof, this address will be different to that from which it is claimed the email has been sent.
Should an email you receive claiming to be from a club official contain unexpected content, you are best advised to ignore and delete it.
