Double treble seals fifth final place

Royal Wootton Bassett Town reached the final of the Wiltshire County Women's Cup for the fifth time courtesy of a 6-0 victory against Highworth Town Under 18s.

A trio of braces from Maddy Elliott, Briony Hurd and Tori Taylor sealed a convincing win for Bassett against a talented young Highworth outfit who take a great deal of pride from reaching the semi finals of a senior competition.

Bassett led early when Taylor bundled in after Laura Jefferies swung in a corner and Hurd saw her header blocked on the line.

Another corner led to Bassett's second. Elle Scott this time provided the deilvery, with Hurd's flicked near post header finding its way in via a deflection.

Elliott then arrowed a low drive into the bottom corner after Bassett's high press forced Highworth to turn over possession inside their own half.

Hurd extended Bassett's lead further shortly after the restart, glancing home another Scott corner.

On the hour Taylor made it 5-0 with a stunning first time effort from thirty yards out that sailed into the top corner.

Elliott then powered home a header from yet another Scott corner late on to complete the scoring.

Bassett now await confirmation of their final opponents with Swindon Town and Bemerton Heath Harlequins still to play their semi final.

Swindon are the most likely team to join them - which would see Bassett play their first County Cup game of the season as underdogs.
