Bulley for Bassett as unbeaten start continues

Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, Sunday 23rd November 2025

Royal Wootton Bassett Town extended their unbeaten start in the South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North to six games as Lauren Bulley's second half brace earned a 2-0 victory against Paulton Rovers.

Despite Paulton having entered the game winless, with just two points to show from their opening eight games, they proved hard for Bassett to break down on a fine, albeit breezy November afternoon.

Indeed, the teams turned around with the score goalless at the interval.

Yet it didn't take long for Bassett to strike after the restart. From the left side Laura Jefferies clipped a delightful pass over the top of the Paulton defence, splitting the visitors' centre halves. Making a diagonal run in behind, Bulley latched onto the ball before cutting onto her right foot and curling a low effort into the bottom right corner.

A rather soft penalty award led to Bassett's second. Another diagonal pass from Jefferies bounced around in the box, catching the arm of a defender. And, despite the lack of any real appeals from the surrounding Bassett players, a spot kick was awarded from which Bulley made no mistake.

Results elsewhere mean Bassett climbed one place to fourth. They are one of just two unbeaten sides remaining too after Corsham Town (winners of six from six) saw off Mangotsfield United.

In an exciting division, there's a crunch test for Lally and his team next week when they host leaders Whitchurch, who sit five points ahead of Bassett having played two games more.
