Development Register First Win Of The Season

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development bounced back from their opening day defeat away at Pewsey Vale with an impressive 4-0 home win over Blunsdon on the AGP at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground.

Bassett took the lead when a first time Mani Mesas ball into the box was turned in by Dale Richards, who has returned to the club following a couple of seasons at Malmesbury Victoria.

The hosts went close to extending their lead when a Ben Spackman cross was headed onto the crossbar and then when a curling effort from Flynn Walters drew a great save from the Blunsdon 'keeper Luke Kuczynski.

Bassett were not to be denied a second though, as Richards fed Walters who hit a superb dipping shot into the top corner of the net giving Kuczynski no chance to make it 2-0 at half time.

The home side went close to extending their lead further in the second half when Walters hit the crossbar with another effort cutting in from the left.

It was not all one-way traffic though and Blunsdon had claims for a penalty midway through the second half when a player went down in the box, but their protests were waved away by the referee.

Bassett eventually extended their lead further in somewhat fortuitous circumstances, a cross from the right from George Lance deceiving the Blunsdon 'keeper and ending up in the back of the net for 3-0.

Walters then rounded off an impressive man of the match performance with another superb strike into the roof of the net from the edge of the box to make the final score 4-0 as Mark Simpkins' side picked up their first points of the season.
