Royal Wootton Bassett Town put in a strong first half display against Hellenic League Premier Division leaders Roman Glass St George, taking the lead twice and looking as though they had a strong chance of pulling off an upset. However, Jonny Aitkenhead's side ultimately fell short as three unanswered second half goals earned the visitors a 4-2 victory.
Although taking confidence from Saturday's vital away win at Cribbs, Tuesday's fixture was one that Bassett will not have expected to take anything from as they came up against high-flying opponents.
But hope was built after an impressive opening 45 minutes - only to be cruelly dashed as Roman Glass exposed Bassett's weakness at set pieces to turn the game around.
Bassett had led early through top scorer Ben Cleary but Dan Stoneman levelled immediately for Roman Glass.
Ten minutes later the hosts were in front once more as Jack Coward headed home from a corner.
Bassett then held onto their advantage going into the break, and had opportunities to grab the game's fourth goal.
Roman Glass had been knocking at the door too, calling into action Bassett 'keeper Lewis Clark who rose to the occasion.
He would be beaten six minutes into the second half though when Bassett twice failed to clear from a corner, the ball falling to Jack Dancey who slotted home.
Roman Glass then took their first lead of the night in rather fortuitous circumstances on the hour when a Jordan Williams cross-cum-shot evaded Clark and sailed into the top corner.
Bassett pushed to get back on terms but failed to find a breakthrough.
And it was game, set and match Roman Glass on 82 minutes when an unmarked Dancey got on the end of another corner to find the net.
This loss, combined with Lydney Town's upset win against Corsham Town, meant Bassett slipped to the bottom of the table.
Bassett are still in touch with the teams around them though - and have the opportunity to drag Cinderford Town into the scrap at the wrong end of the table when visiting the Forest of Dean on Saturday.
