Plaistow hat-trick secures the three points

First time playing on Marlborough's ground and with mixed results by them, and the fact that we hadn't played a league game for four weeks, this game had an air of mystery about it.

The game started well for us, with the keeper making numerous saves early in the game, saving shots from Alfie, Martyn and David Raynor. With more intelligent work by Oliver Cole and Martyn Plaistow, Bassett were making life easy at opening Marlborough's defence, giving more chances to Alfie, who was denied by their keeper on many occasions, even when Alfie was one on one.

The first half should sure Bassett running away with the game, but a mix up in defence saw Marlborough score with their first attack, were the keeper kicked the ball straight at their player and unlucky for us the ball went in.

After that Marlborough took more chances, but nothing to test our keeper and Bassett continued to batter Marlborough's goal with shots from Mark Molley, Simon Sanghera and Ryan Williams, but their keeper looked unbeatable.

The half time score was 1-nil to Marlborough and the second half started like the first, but Marlborough came out stronger, but with a good move in midfield from Simon Sanghera and David Raynor, Bassett finally equalised with Martyn Plaistow shooting just wide of the keeper.

It wasn't long after, that Bassett got a second with good work up the wing with substitute Alex Taylor releasing Marytn to score again, Bassett where now deservedly 2-1 up.

With Marlborough not having much of the ball and not creating many chances, it was inevitable that they might sneak an equaliser and with about five minutes to go, they got the equaliser with a good header from a corner.

It was looking like a good two points drop and with Bassett still making chances, it was just their keeper keeping them in the game, but with only a couple minutes to go, an individual determined run by Martyn Plaistow, saw them put the ball neatly under the keeper's legs and that completed the scoring, with Bassett winning 3-2 and the whole team celebrated with joy and relief.

It was unlucky for Marlborough who played well and must owe their position in the game to their keeper and the team for not giving up.

The win was well deserved and the lads did not stop until the end, this performance cannot be truly reflected by the result, as the score line makes the game look closer than it was.
