Bassett Ladies return to winning ways

After two league defeats on the trot to Swindon Town Reserves it was important for Bassett to return to winning ways but things didn't look to good when a combination of Work commitments, illness and holidays left them with a sadly depleted squad of nine to start the game. It was a tense start while Bassett tried to get to grips with playing with two less players and Bradford could have taken an early lead when they broke through only to shoot high and wide. Bassett for their part were working extremely hard not allowing Bradford to get any rhythm in there play and used the pace of Becky Poole and Kirstie Hulse to good effect to get in behind their defence and cause Bradford on Avon a few problems of their own. The deadlock was broken when Bassett failed to clear the ball after a corner and Bradford nipped in quickly to force the ball over the line. Bassett however kept it a 1 – 0 until half time.

Encouraged by their good first half display Bassett again worked hard and got the breakthrough when a quick throw down the line from Sarah Tyas set Hulse away who combined with the influential Cara Stacey who finished well to draw level 1 – 1.

Bassett now seemed to sense anything was possible and continued to search for another goal which came from Becky Poole who had been causing problems down the left all afternoon.

Bradford then seemed to lose heart and Bassett scored two more through Hulse who got her just rewards for running the front line single handily for the whole afternoon.

A fine display of team work paying off putting Bassett back on track to challenge for the title.
