Bassett Ladies good start to the season continues

Wootton Bassett Town Ladies continued their good start to the season with an away trip to Clevedon Town Res. Bassett started the game well with Kirsty Hulse opening the scoring on 4 min with s hot across the goal from the left hand side beating the keeper and just creeping in at the far post.

Bassett continued to press and were rewarded after 35 min when Jan Reynolds returning after an injury scored her first goal of the season, Bassett held onto this lead until half time.

In the second half the strong wind then gave Clevdon the advantage and five minurte into the second half replied with a looping shot which Gemma Carter could not manage to save despite moving quickly across her goal but could only get her finger tips to the ball.

To Bassett's credit this spurred them up a gear and were rewarded when the referee gave a free kick just to the right hand side of the penalty box. The free kick was taken by Cara Stacey whose well flighted ball released Sarah Tyas through the centre to finish well past the helpless keeper.

Bassett's back 4 of Harvey, Chester, Knight and Powell were well organised and limited Clevedons chances.

Bassett's final goal of the game when Hulse was upended in the penalty area after a fine run cutting in from the left hand side. Cara Stacey took the resulting penalty which the keeper got to but could prevent the ball from spinning agonisingly over the line.

Clevedon though were not finished and pressed hard in the dying stages forcing an excellent save from Carter diving across the width of her goal to tip the ball round for a corner. The corner was well taken but was headed clear by the hardworking Sarah Tyas in the last action of the game.
