Bassett Ladies open season with a win

Wootton Bassett welcomed Swindon Town Ladies Reserves to the Gerald Buxton Stadium for their first game of the new season in the Wiltshire County Women's & Girls Football League, and they might have got to a flying start when Kirsty Hulse burst through in the first attack of the game only to shoot wide of the goal with only the goal keeper to beat their were several more early chances with Bassett forcing some early corners but it was not until the 12th minute that Bassett opened the scoring after Kirsty Hulse set Natasha Burson free with a through ball and on this occasion slipped the ball past the approaching keeper.

The game then settled down with most of the play taking place down the right hand side of the pitch some what influenced by the strong cross wind. Although Bassetts play was not so effective in this period Swindon's efforts were restricted to a couple of long range free kicks and corners which did not trouble Gemma Carter in Bassett's goal. Towards the end of the fist half however Rebecca Pooles clever ball down the left saw the lively Hulse through on goal and this time she made sure finishing well .

At half time Bassett looked good for their 2 – 0 lead and started the second half well but were unable to create any further scoring opportunities until the 75 minute when Georgina Brain crossed the ball from the right to Emma Williams who's first effort rebounded back off the keeper but followed up well to add Bassett's third of the afternoon.

Swindon then hit back with a late goal from Holly Ashman and almost scored again with the last kick off the game going narrowly wide of Bassetts goal.
