First league win of the season

Bassett secured their first league win of the season in convincing style against Watchfield Eagles on a massive pitch at the Airey Neave Memorial Ground. The wide-open spaces certainly suited Bassett as they were able to exploit the full width of the pitch to tear apart the home side in the first fifteen minutes of the game. During this period Bassett scored six goals with Sean Toomey helping himself to four in a tremendous team performance in the opening half of the match.

The passing play from the Bassett side was the best seen all season and some of the goals followed some flowing moves. As well as Sean Toomey, Philip Tearle also got his name on the score sheet, scoring two in the first half and a third in the second half. Matthew Smith made some excellent runs down the right wing for Bassett, but it was Callum Snooks and Matthew Purse who created most of Bassett's scoring chances with some excellent through balls. Tom Marchment was as competitive as ever in midfield and William McCurruch, David Lazenby, Stuart Smedley, Daniel Strange and Simon Anderton made sure Watchfield did not get on the score sheet.

A fine goal line clearance in the first half from Daniel Strange was the closest the home side came to scoring but it was not all one sided as Simon Anderton was asked to pull off at least three saves in one-on-one situations.

In the second half the Bassett side tired somewhat on the large pitch and the expected avalanche of goals did not materialise. All in all, an excellent performance which will hopefully do the lads confidence the world of good.
