An excellent league campaign in which they lost just four league games helped Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 15 Girls earn a share of runners-up place in North Wilts League Division Two in 2024-25.
Bassett finished tied on points with Ashton Keynes - and, fittingly, the two teams drew what was Bassett's final game of the season. A win would have ensured second place belonged just to Bassett, though Ashton Keynes still then had to win their last match to force the eventual tie.
The team started with maximum points from their opening three games as they won away at Bishops Cannings Dragonflies (8-0), at home against Kingsdown Lions Red (4-1) and on the road at Larkhall Athletic (7-3).
They continued to be among the goals when hosting Bath City Romans - who would also find themselves in the battle for honours, but lost by the odd goal in seven.
But Bassett quickly bounced back from that reverse with a big win against Kingsdown Blue (17-0) before being awarded victory against Bishops Cannings.
A second loss of the season against league leaders Melksham Town Lionesses followed - though Bassett showed their quality in a narrow 4-2 defeat.
Once again, they quickly got back to winning ways with a 10-1 triumph at home against Durrington Falcons in their last game before Christmas.
That left Bassett second heading into the break, a point ahead of Ashton Keynes and two in front of Bath.
The team secured another big win against Durrington to start the new year, triumphing 8-0 away from home. But one point from their next three games saw Bassett slip to third.
They picked up a handy point, drawing 2-2 away at Bath but fell to a narrow 4-3 defeat against Ashton Keynes before Melksham edged past Bassett in a 6-4 thriller.
But Bassett regained second place with a big 5-1 home win against Larkhall, who they rose above in the table. Then, having seen off Kingsdown Blue 14-1, a 2-0 away win at Kingsdown Red in their penultimate fixture made certain of a top three finish.
With one game to go, Bassett sat three points ahead of third place Ashton Keynes who held a game in hand. Victory against their rivals would have given them second place outright. It was not to be though as the teams split the points in a six goal thriller before Ashton Keynes' big win against Larkhall ensured the teams finished level.
