Weekend preview: Home doubleheader

Wednesday 14th February 2024

There's a home double header involving Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Men's and Women's First Team sides this weekend.

On Sunday the Women's First Team entertain fellow South West Regional Women's Football League Division One Eastern (Sustain Stadium, 2pm kick off).

Just two weeks since their last meeting the teams go again - and Bassett will be aiming to record a third win of the season against their opponents after their 6-1 league triumph added to their earlier 7-2 Women's FA Cup victory.

Admission on Sunday is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members.

Prior to that Saturday sees the Men's First Team entertain Wantage Town in the Hellenic League Premier Division (Sustain Stadium, 3pm kick off).

The teams find themselves at opposite ends of the table with Bassett vying for a playoff spot and the Alfredians fighting to beat the drop.

Sam Collier's side triumphed 4-0 when the teams met back in August. But while they enter the game as clear favourites, Bassett will be fighting against history if they are to triumph, with just one win (back in January 2001) from twelve previous home league meetings, and a run of eight straight home losses, against Wantage.

Admission on Saturday is £7 for adults, £4 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members.

The Development team are in away action against near neighbours Shrivenham in the Wiltshire League Premier Division (2.15pm).

Mark Simpkins' team triumphed 4-1 when the sides met back in September.
