Yellows storm past opponents on big weekend

Tuesday 7th December 2021

Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Under 12, 13, 16 and 18 Yellow sides were all big winners this weekend as Bassett's youth sides registered seven wins from eleven games played.

Top scorers were the Under 16 Yellows who hit nine without reply past Purton Youth on Saturday to put themselves in the mix among the five sides seemingly fighting it out for a top two finish in North Wilts League Division Three.

Guiding the team to victory were hat tricks from Ewan Painter and Lewis Taylor as well as further strikes from Patrick Otoo-Mensah (2) and Mani Sadati.

The Under 12 Yellows hit one fewer in their thumping 8-1 win away against Wims 11 Calgary. Leading scorer Aleksander Goralczyk fired four goals, with Daisy Bundy, Liam Cook, Reece Giles and Stanley Lockley all registering a single goal each.

The Under 18 Yellow notched a magnificent seven, conceding just once in a big triumph against Kingsdown Lions Blue. Five different scorers – Charlie Hudson (2), Oliver Dyer, Callum King, Ryan Lawrence and Jacob Rendell-Haines – found the net for Bassett as they sealed only their second league win of the season in fine style.

Although engaged in a tighter contest, the Under 13s made it four wins from five for the club's Yellow cohort. They came from behind to defeat Highworth Town Juniors J 4-2 as Fynn Crone (2), Yusuf Guloglu and Alfie Hobbs all scored. Video of the goals from that contest can be viewed on this page.

Three of Bassett's Blue sides also recorded maximum points.

Climbing to fourth in North Wilts League Division Two and ending a run of two straight defeats, the Under 15 Blues beat Kingsdown Lions 6-1. There were braces for Parker Fisher and Daniel Seedall while Ed Greenouff and Finlay Marshall were on target too.

The Under 13 Blues kept touch with the leaders in Division One and also brought a two game winless run to an end as they triumphed 6-2 on the road against St Andrews Scarlets. Liam Lye-Owens led the way with a hat trick, Finlay Mowe supplied two goals and Phanuel Asenso also found the net.

And a fine defensive display from the Under 12 Blues helped seal a clean sheet in a 2-0 triumph away at Bishops Cannings Youth Scorpions. Mason Brooks and Harry Scott scored the only goals of the game for Bassett.

Although not winning, the Under 12 Girls recorded an impressive point away against high-flying Staverton Rangers in the Wiltshire County Girls' League. Robyn-Jayne Spencer netted for Bassett.

Elsewhere, after a double last weekend, both Under 14 sides were beaten this time round. The Blues lost 8-2 at Liden Community, with consolation goals coming from Henry Guthrie and Leon Hudson, while the Yellows lost 7-1 at home against Ferndale Rodbourne YCFC.

The Under 16 Blues also slipped up, narrowly losing 2-1 at home against AFC Newbury.
