Double header success for Under 15 and 16 Blues

Monday 12th April 2021

Returning to action for the first time since December, Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Under 15 and 16 Blues enjoyed success in their inaugural 'double header' fixtures this weekend.

Organised for instances where teams have not met so far this season, they will be a frequent occurrence in the North Wilts League in coming weeks.

And Bassett's sides taking part in such fixtures this weekend both secured an impressive haul of four points.

The Under 15 Blues moved into third in Division Two with a 3-0 win and 1-1 draw against Stratton Youth, who they leapfrogged. Finley Smith grabbed a brace, with Maxwell Woods scoring once in their victory.

Facing Marlborough Youth, the Under 16 Blues triumphed 3-0 in their 'home' fixture thanks to goals from Jack Rae (2) and Ryan Lawrence and drew 0-0 in their 'away' encounter.

Elsewhere, there was a winning return for the Under 13 Blues who saw off FC Chippenham Youth Barca 6-2. Lewis Osbaldeston was their hat-trick hero, with Charlie Hancock (2) and Brandon Jack also on target. Their third win in a row (dating back to before lockdown) sees them sit third in Division Two.

There was a positive result for the Under 16 Yellows too, though, despite going 2-0 ahead, they came away with just a solitary point in a 2-2 draw against Wroughton Youth White. Goals, scored by Edward Aitken and Taiga Matsushima, from that game are available to view in the video on this page.

Meanwhile, there were defeats for five teams.

The Under 13 Yellows were involved in a thriller against Cirencester Town Centurions but lost 6-5. Leo Bagley was on fire for Bassett as he scored all five of his team's goals. The Under 18s returned with a 3-0 defeat against Malmesbury Victoria Development.

The Under 12 Blues lost 7-3 to table toppers Ramsbury Youth (scorers for Bassett were Phanuel Asenso with two and William Smith).

The Under 12 Yellows were beaten by the same score against Stratton Juniors Lions, with Thomas Hyde (2) and Fynn Crone getting on the scoresheet.

Both Under 14 teams found the going tough. Beau Hicks was on target in a 10-2 defeat for the Blues against AFC Corsham. And Finley Lavender provided the highlight of the game for the Yellows in their 6-1 loss away against FC Abbey Meads Youth Purple. After playing in goal in the first half, he featured out on pitch after the restart and netted.
