Congratulations to Sam McGeoch of Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Under 11 Yellow team on winning the Youth Section Player of the Month award for January.

In nominating Sam for the award, his team's manager Paul Gillie said: "He joined us this year having not played football before and has started playing in goal. He turns up every week, trains really hard and continues to develop his general football skills and his goalkeeping skills."

"Sam is a very good team player and will play in any position he is put. This weekend in particular he was excellent, we won and he played in goal the whole time - it was freezing cold, pouring down with rain, the ball spent 90% of the time in the opposition half but he kept his concentration and made some very good clearances when he was called upon."

The Player of the Month award is a new initiative. Players can be nominated by their team managers and coaches. Nominees then go into a ballot with the winner - who receives a voucher and trophy - selected from these. Many thanks go to Don Rogers for conducting this month's draw.
