Veterans enjoy St. George's Park visit

Sunday 3rd February 2019

While their game against the RAF FA Veterans may have ended in a 6-3 defeat, Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Veterans team enjoyed a fantastic visit to the FA's St. George's Park national football centre on Saturday.

Invited to take part in the first game of a charity doubleheader raising money for the RAF Association, Bassett's Veterans travelled up to Burton-on-Trent in the morning, with the coach departing a snowy Gerard Buxton Sports Ground early in the morning.

Prior to the game, the Veterans players and those accompanying them were able to go on a tour of the FA's outstanding facility before playing on its indoor 3G pitch.

Martin Cooper, Steve Howse and Dave Parker scored for Bassett, though the goals proved not to be enough as the RAF side had forged a 3-0 half time lead.

After the game, RAF FA President Sir Christopher Coville presented a gift of friendship to the club's Head of Veterans Section Nick Warren in recognition of the significant ties that have been forged between Bassett and the RAF FA over the past couple of years.

Special thanks go to the RAF FA for the invitation to take part in this fundraising weekend. We look forward to hosting them at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground in May.

Donations to the RAF FA's fundraising efforts can be made via the JustGiving page that has been set up.
