Impressive wins for youth quartet

Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Under 18 Blue, 16 Blue, Under 16 Yellow and Under 14 Yellow teams all recorded important victories this weekend.

The Under 18 and 16 Blues both booked their place in the semi-finals of their respective Wiltshire County Cup competitions – joining the Under 15 Blues and Ladies in representing the club at that late stage of the prestigious knockout competitions.

Meanwhile, the Under 14 Yellows recorded a fantastic victory – and only their second of the season - that took them off bottom spot of North Wilts League Division Three. And the Under 16 Yellows' win moves them up into a tie for third place in Division Two.

In the County Cup contests, the Under 18 Blues saw off North Wilts League Division One rivals Malmesbury Victoria Development 3-0 courtesy of goals from Bailey Gallagher (2) and George Staten, while the Under 16 Blues defeated Division Two opponents Wanborough Juniors Yellow 4-0 thanks to Michael Friend's brace and strikes from Luca Robinson and Daniel Warre.

The victories mean the Under 18 Blues are a win away from being the club's first finalists in the Wiltshire Youth Cup since the 2010-11 season, while the Under 16 Blues' hopes of retaining the County Cup title they secured last season remain alive.

In their league contest, the Under 14 Yellows met Marlborough Youth Colts. Despite starting the stronger, Bassett were forced to weather a late first half surge from their opponents. Bassett gained more control in the second half and were eventually able to secure the win by the odd goal in three. On target for Bassett were Sam Warner and Ollie Dyer.

The Under 16 Yellows were the only other Bassett side to win in the league this weekend. They were impressive in a 4-1 triumph against bottom side Stratton Youth, with the three points meaning they are now well-placed for a tilt at a top three finish. Scoring were Noah Beech, Adam Carter, Callum Flay and Liam Hiles.

Elsewhere, the Under 13 Yellows were unable to build on last week's win, falling to a 4-1 loss against Highworth Town Juniors H, the Under 13 Blues lost by the same score at home against Ferndale Rodbourne Red, the Under 12 Blues lost 4-2 against Robins White and the Under 14 Blues were beaten 9-0 by title-chasing Lydiard Youth.
