Bassett suffer heavy Floodlit Cup loss

Royal Wootton Bassett Town were defeated 4-0 by Windsor in their Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup second round tie.

Three goals in the first half's final quarter hour proved decisive as Royal Wootton Bassett Town fell to a heavy 4-0 loss away against Windsor in their Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup second round contest.

Suspension, injury and unavailability forced manager Sam Collier to ring the changes, including starting himself up front for his 150th appearance for Bassett.

Nevertheless the visitors still made a positive start to the game, the opening exchanges seeing the teams appear relatively evenly matched.

But on 33 minutes George Gould struck what proved to be the decisive blow, heading in from a Jamie Di Giuseppe corner.

Three minutes later Windsor's lead was doubled. Carl Evans was caught in possession deep inside his own half, and when Di Giuseppe played the ball into the box an unfortunate Adam Corcoran was able to get there ahead of the striker but could only divert into his own net.

Andy Ingram then made it three on the stroke of half time, scoring after being teed up by Matt Stockill.

The dangerous Dan Roberts completed the scoring just before the hour.
