Ladies step up pre-season preparations

Saturday 14th July 2018

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies are stepping up their preparations for the 2018-19 South West Women's Football League Eastern Division campaign with training set to take place twice a week and four friendly matches arranged against quality opposition.

Under new joint-managers Jonny House and James Goddard, the Ladies began training a fortnight ago.

Twice weekly sessions will now take place on Tuesday (7-8pm) and Thursday (8-9.30pm) evenings at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground.

Their first friendly will be on Sunday 29th July when they host league rivals St Nicholas Reserves (2pm kick off, Gerard Buxton Sports Ground).

Two away games then follow, beginning on Sunday 5th August against Winchester City Flyers, who finished third in the Southern Region Women's League Premier Division – a step higher than Bassett – last season.

Bassett then visit Southern Region North Division side Abingdon United on Sunday 19th August.

Their fourth tune-up game is set for Thursday 23rd August at home against Cardiff Met (6.30pm kick off, Gerard Buxton Sports Ground).

The Welsh university side, whose first team qualified for the UEFA Women's Champions League qualifying rounds courtesy of a fifth consecutive Welsh Premier League title, finished top of the South Wales Women's and Girls' League Division Two Development in 2017-18.

New players remain welcome to attend training as the management team aim to further strengthen the squad and build on the success Bassett's Ladies side have enjoyed in the past few years.

Those interested in joining are invited to contact Jonny House (07713 443033) and James Goddard (07795 094588).
