Scott and Stuart Smedley appointed Life Members

Saturday 14 July 2018 - by RWBTFC (Updated on 14 July 2018 at 12:26)

Congratulations to Scott and Stuart Smedley, who were appointed Life Members at the club's Annual General Meeting on Thursday evening.

The brothers, who have been involved with Royal Wootton Bassett Town since the late 1990s when they began playing in the club's youth section, become the tenth and eleventh individuals to receive the prestigious honour, joining their father Mark on the list.

Alongside his time spent playing for Bassett and the numerous occasions on which he has refereed at the club's six-a-side tournaments, Scott has been responsible for designing the club's website since 2002, when he was aged fourteen.

The website has been through multiple iterations since its creation, each one of an extremely high standard. And, in an age when the majority of clubs use off-the-shelf products for their online presence, his hard work and dedication have ensured that rwbtfc.co.uk is one of the most professionally designed and easy to update websites belonging to a grassroots club.

He is currently working on a mobile-friendly design, which is expected to be available later in the year.

Stuart played in the youth section between 1998 and 2008 and, like his elder brother, helped out as a referee at the club's tournaments.

His main roles with the club, however, have been as Match Reporter for the first team since 2002 (when aged twelve) and Press Officer, positions he continues to fill.Stuart has also been active in chronicling the club's history alongside his father, details of which are available to view in the history section of the website.

The pair have remained involved with Bassett despite the Smedley family moving away from the town in 2009 too, and the club is hugely thankful for their continued efforts.
