Senior section set to gear up for new season

Sunday 17th June 2018

Royal Wootton Bassett Town begin preparations for the 2018-19 season on Tuesday 26th June when senior section pre-season training gets under way.

Both the First and Development teams will be aiming to improve on their performances in 2017-18, when Sam Collier's side finished a disappointing 15th in the Hellenic League Premier Division and Paul Gerrish's Development outfit occupied a more respectable tenth place in the Wiltshire Senior League.

First team boss Collier has been busy in recent weeks, working the phones and meeting with potential recruits to help boost his squad.

The majority of players who finished the season with Bassett are set to again commit, while the manager is confident of securing the services of a series of players with Southern and Hellenic League experience.

After starting on the 26th, training will take place every Tuesday and Thursday in the lead up to the start of the Hellenic League campaign on Saturday 4th August.

Players attending are expected to arrive at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground in time to ensure a prompt 7pm start. They should bring both football boots and running shoes.

Three friendlies have so far been organised. Bassett begin with a trip to Westbury United, Western League Division One champions last year, on Tuesday July 17th before hosting Hellenic League Division One West outfit New College two days later. On Saturday 21st July Bassett will host Southern League Premier South neighbours Swindon Supermarine.
