Under 15 Blues complete cup double

Having already laid claim to the Wiltshire County Cup, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 15 Blues made it a cup double as a deserved 3-1 triumph against Swindon Supermarine R secured them the North Wilts League Cup.

Their victory continued their domination of the competition, which they have now won in three of the past four seasons.

And three first half goals went a long way to guaranteeing that success.

The opening exchanges were tight, though Bassett were having the better of the play. And they came close when Daniel Warre forced a good save.

Landon Golding eventually put Bassett ahead. Warre was denied from a twenty-five yard free kick, but soon after a fine pass was played into Golding, who brilliantly turned his marker and produced a neat finish.

The lead was soon doubled as Ben Chin's free kick from the edge of the area took a deflection off the wall and into the bottom corner.

A looping George Ford shot then proved too much for the Supermarine 'keeper to hold onto after a corner initially bounced around the box as Bassett moved into a commanding 3-0 lead before the break.

Warre, performing excellently but seemingly unable to grab the goal he deserved, saw a header sail narrowly over shortly after the restart.

Had that got in, it would have been a game clinching fourth. As it was though, Supermarine got back in the game as Bassett failed to deal with a free kick and were punished.

Warre then almost set up Golding, but his cross was just out of his teammate's reach. At the other end, Supermarine broke, but the resulting shot went well over.

As the game wound down, Bassett were denied what should have been a penalty, while Nathaniel Bell forced a superb save.

But, failing to stretch out their lead, Bassett were able to deal with anything Supermarine threw at them, the closest they came late on being when a header was sent over the bar.

Though unable to overhaul Supermarine in the league, Bassett made sure they got the better of their opponents in two cup competitions, with this final victory delivering a second piece of silverware in another superb season for the team.
