Under 16 Girls at the double

Saturday 20th May 2017

One week on from lifting the League Cup, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 16 Girls completed the double by claiming the Wiltshire County Girls League title with an emphatic 5-1 triumph against Westbury Youth Amazons.

Bassett went into their final game of the season three points behind the Amazons. And, after a 4-2 home defeat against Westbury in their opening game of the campaign, Bassett needed to win by three clear goals to take the title.

It was therefore set up to be a thriller, and didn't disappoint.

Leading scorer Sophie Roberts and Georiga Brown both scored braces, while Gracie Bridger made sure it was a five star performance that earned the team the right to call themselves champions.

Congratulations to the Girls on a fantastic achievement!

As a team they've enjoyed a phenomenal first season, narrowly missing out on a treble after defeat by the slenderest margins against Westbury in the Wiltshire County Cup final.
