Charity football match in memory of James Smith

Friday 7th April 2017

A Royal Wootton Bassett Town XI will be taking part in a charity football match against Cirencester Town on Easter Sunday to raise money in memory of former player James Smith.

The Bassett team will be comprised of teammates who played alongside James in the club's under 18 Floodlit League and Reserve sides, and will be overseen by Danny Groom.

The son of Royal Wootton Bassett Cricket Club chairman Rod Smith and a keen cricketer himself, James was a popular, friendly figure who sadly passed away in December following a short battle against cancer.

The charity game will take place at the Corinium Stadium. Gates open at 1.30pm, with kick off at 3pm.

Entry will be £5 for adults and £1 for under 16s, while there will be a raffle taking place. Part of a family day, a disco will follow the match in the evening.

All money raised will be donated to Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, who provided amazing support for James and his family and friends.

All support will be very much appreciated. It should be an entertaining afternoon, raising money for a great cause in memory of an outstanding individual.
