Under 12 Blues take the spoils in top of the table thriller

Sunday 19th March 2017

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 12 Blues put themselves in pole position for the North Wilts League Division Three title with a thrilling 4-3 victory over rivals Wroughton Youth Blue.

After leading 3-1 at half time, Bassett were able to hold on for the points after a spirited Wroughton comeback attempt. Scorers for Bassett were Sam Burn, Oliver Dyer, Jacob Rendell-Haines and Harvey Watkinson.

Victory moves Bassett, possessing a vital game in hand, within a point of Wroughton, who remain top despite their defeat. With things being so tight at the top, it's set to be an exciting final few weeks of the season.

Also in a great position to take the league crown are the Under 14 Blues. And they kept their Division One championship pursuit on track with a routine 4-0 win against Hungerford Town Juniors. Nathaniel Bell (2), Freddie Merrett and Daniel Warre got the goals in their triumph.

The Under 13 Yellows had already secured the Division Four title a few weeks ago, and they finished their league campaign by beating Blunsdon 10-2. On target were Samuel Osei Bonsu (3), Tristan McKay (2), Sebastian Turner (2), Harry Collins and Gabriel Noone.

James Handley got the only goal of the game against Highworth Town Juniors C as the Under 18s moved up to third in Division Two. Despite being level on points with second place Croft Juniors, it's unlikely Bassett - who have played two games more - will finish as runners-up though.

On Saturday the Under 16 Girls were big winners in their Wiltshire County Girls Cup semi final against FC Chippenham Youth. Ellie Hayward and Sophie Roberts both scored four in a 15-0 thrashing, while Chloe Lawrence (2), Lauren Usher (2), Lois Beer, Gracie Bridger and Emma Sykes also found the back of the net.

Elsewhere, the Under 12 Yellows fell to a 5-1 defeat against Purton Youth in their penultimate game of the season.
