Contrasting fortunes in championship chases

While Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 14 Blues remained on course to take the North Wilts League Division One crown with victory this weekend, the Under 13 Blues saw their title hopes all but dashed thanks to an agonising defeat.

Two goals from Daniel Warre, as well as strikes from Nathaniel Bell and Jack Langcaster made it ten wins from as many league games for the Under 14 Blues as they beat fourth place Highworth Town Juniors T 4-1.

Bassett remain second, six points behind Swindon Supermarine R with three games in hand.

Needing to triumph in their final two games of the season to be in with a shout of taking the title, the Under 13 Blues saw their dreams slip away as they were beaten 7-4 by Highworth Town Juniors H.

Bassett trailed by four goals at the break, and, despite a second half which saw Marcel Lewis (2), Otis Lewis and Jack Osbaldeston find the back of the net, they were unable to take anything from the game.

While a disappointing defeat, they can still finish in runners-up spot. Whatever happens, their season, which included a run to the Wiltshire County Cup quarter finals, has been an excellent one.

Having already wrapped up their Division Four title, the Under 13 Yellows showed no signs of taking their foot off the gas. They thrashed Lydiard Millicent Juniors Green 6-1 thanks to Samuel Osei Bonsu's hat trick, Sebastian Turner's brace and a further goal from Harry Collins.

Also victorious were the Under 16 Girls who romped to a 19-0 success over Melksham Town Youth in the Wiltshire County Girls League Cup quarter final. On target were Sophie Roberts (5), Millie Colford (4), Lois Beer (3), Ellie Hayward (3), Gracie Bridger (2) and Chloe Lawrence (2).

The Under 12 Yellows, meanwhile, were defeated 5-1 by Fairford Town Youth.
