Age no issue as Under 14 Blues progress

Sunday 20th November 2016

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 14 Blues proved that age is no barrier as they beat Old Town United Under 15s to book their place in the Wiltshire County Cup third round.

While a one year difference may not seem much, playing a side from the age group up is always an extremely difficult challenge. But Bassett were able to pass the test they faced, recording a narrow victory by the odd goal in three thanks to Jack Langcaster's brace.

Another side making it through to the third round of the County Cup were Bassett's Under 13 Blue outfit, who saw off Melksham Town Youth Hurricanes 5-2. Lewis-James Bexon-Shaw led the way for Bassett with a brace, while strikes from Rory Ryan and Joey Warren and an own goal made victory certain.

The Under 18s failed to make it through though as they fell to a heavy 8-1 home defeat against Bradford Town Youth White. Callum Bridges grabbed Bassett's lone goal on a difficult afternoon.

Elsewhere, it was a successful weekend of league action.

At the ninth time of asking – and after numerous narrow defeats, the Under 14 Yellows notched a league win. They convincingly defeated FC Abbey Meads Colts 5-1.

A week after ending a run of six straight defeats, the Under 12 Yellows made it two consecutive victories with a 4-3 triumph in a nail-biting thriller against FC Abbey Meads.

There was joy for the Under 13 Yellows too. They had a comfortable 9-0 win against Liden Community White, which moves them joint top of North Wilts League Division Four. Sebastian Turner scored another hat-trick, Samuel Osei Bonsu contributed a brace, while Harry Collins, Tristan McKay and Daniel Seal also found the back of the net.
