Melksham await in County Cup quarter finals

Tuesday 17th November 2015

Royal Wootton Bassett Town have been handed a home tie against Western League Premier Division title holders Melksham Town in the Wiltshire Senior Cup quarter finals.

While no doubt happy to again be drawn at home, Bassett boss Paul Braithwaite, who is hoping to guide his side to the semi finals having been eliminated at the quarter final stage last season, will know his team face a far trickier test than those already faced in the opening two rounds against Ludgershall Sports and New College Swindon.

The game is scheduled to take place at the New Gerard Buxton Sports Ground on Saturday 19th December.

On top of their league crown last season, Melksham lifted the County Cup in both the 2012-13 and 2013-14 campaigns, the latter success taking their overall number of Senior Cup triumphs to seven.

In this year's installment of the competition, Melksham comfortably defeated Westbury United 3-0 in the opening round before defeating 2014-15 runners-up Bradford Town 3-1 in the last sixteen. Their league form has been strong too as they currently sit fourth, and can match current leaders Bristol Manor Farm should they win their three games in hand.

Bassett's last competitive meeting with Melksham was in the third round of the County Cup during the 2006-07 season when Melksham triumphed 1-0 at The Conigre.

Elsewhere, in the Wiltshire County Under 13s Cup, Bassett's Blue side face an away trip to North Wilts League Division One rivals Liden Community White in the third round. That game will take place on Sunday December 13th.

The Under 15 Blues, meanwhile, will host Salisbury City Youth in the third round of the Wiltshire County Under 15s Cup competition on Sunday December 6th.
