Ladies drawn against Flyers in FA Women’s Cup

Friday 14th August 2015

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies have been drawn at home to face Downend Flyers in the First Qualifying Round of the 2015/16 FA Women's Cup.

It's the fourth year in a row that Bassett have been handed a home tie in the competition's opening round, and Becky Gammon's team will be looking to repeat their success of two seasons ago when they defeated Cheltenham Civil Service.

Downend represent extremely tough opponents, however. The Bristol-based side are currently plying their trade in the South West Women's Football League Premier Division, two levels above Bassett. They finished seventh of nine teams in that division last season.

The First Qualifying Round tie will take place on Sunday 6th September (2pm kick off).

Should Bassett progress they would then host either Cheltenham Civil Service or Basingstoke Town in the Second Qualifying Round.

League rivals of Bassett last year, Cheltenham are now playing in the South West Women's League Western Division after finishing as Gloucestershire County Women's League champions. Basingstoke, meanwhile, play in the Southern Region Women's Football League Premier Division, two levels higher than Bassett in the women's pyramid.

The Second Qualifying Round will take place on Sunday 20th September.
