Late Goal Gives RAF Win

Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, Saturday 2nd May 2026

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Veterans ran the RAF FA close in the Over 35s fixture that formed part of the now traditional Super Saturday meeting between the two sides.

Mark Zych fired Bassett ahead but a well taken goal just before half time saw the RAF level matters up going into the break.

The second half saw the RAF go in front for the first time in the game.

Bassett went close to leveling when Men's First Team manager Jonny Aitkenhead was clean through on goal but somehow managed to hit his shot against the post when it looked easier to score. He injured a 'hammy' - and perhaps also some pride - in the process and was forced to come off.

Bassett did get themselves back on level terms with a well taken headed goal from Gavin Cook.

However, it would be the RAF who would celebrate the win a late goal giving them a 3-2 win.
