Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development maintained their unbeaten run as they edged out Calne Town Reserves 2-1 in the Wiltshire League Premier Division.
Despite being bottom of the table, Calne went into the game buoyed by a midweek win over Trowbridge Town in the Fountain Trophies Cup. Further emphasising that this would not be an easy game for Mark Simpkins' side, when Calne had played Bassett at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground back in August the two teams had shared the points following an entertaining 3-3 draw.
It was to prove to be yet another close game decided by the narrowest of margins.
With Ben Spackman having scored for the visitors and Jack Smith with his third of the week for Calne, it was the award of a penalty for visitors Bassett that was to prove the difference as Charlie King put the spot kick away to secure three points.
The win for Bassett sees them remain in seventh spot, but they have a six-point lead over Shrivenham and Purton Kingsdown, the two sides just below them in the table.
