Bassett lose close contest against Wroughton

The opening 15 minutes of Bassett's second league fixture of the season against Wroughton were very tight with Bassett having most of the possession. Unfortunately, Bassett were unable to convert this possession into goals, with James Moore in the Wroughton goal dealing comfortably with everything Bassett could throw at him. Jack Hiscock began to dominate the midfield for Wroughton and it was Hiscock who scored in the closing stages of the half to give the visitors an interval lead. Bassett got themselves back into the match midway through the second half when Phil Tearle scored his third goal of the season.

Both sides continued to play good football with Matt Purse involved in much of Bassett's play. A goal from Sam Toomer restored Wroughton's two goal lead but a fine chipped goal from Matt Purse put Bassett back in with a fighting chance and led to a tense closing couple of minutes. Unfortunately for Bassett a late goal from Joe Shaw, following an error in the Bassett defence made the final score 4-2 to the visitors. Bassett's man of the match in an excellent game of football was Matt Purse.
