Weekend preview: Bassett set for Corsham away derby double

Tuesday 10th March 2026

Royal Wootton Bassett Town face not one but two derby visits to Wiltshire rivals Corsham Town this weekend - with both games of what is set to be an exciting derby doubleheader having potential promotion implications.

Rearranged fixtures have meant that both visits fall on the same weekend - creating the opportunity for an exciting showcase of Wiltshire football.

On Saturday the Men's First Team go in search of a Hellenic League Premier Division double over Corsham (3pm kick off), with Bassett having triumphed 2-1 at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground back in August.

That was Bassett's first victory over Corsham since the Quarrymen joined the Hellenic League and came against the odds. Corsham, who are pushing for promotion, will be favourites again on Saturday. But Jonny Aitkenhead's side will be hoping to put a dent in those prospects.

Title hopes are then on the line for both teams on Sunday when Bassett visit Corsham in the South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North (2pm kick off).

The teams are two of five involved in a wide open race for top spot, and will be aiming to strike a potentially decisive blow as the season nears its climax.

Corsham snatched a 2-0 victory in the initial meeting between the teams last month, in a game that Bassett largely dominated. James Lally's team will therefore be out to avenge that loss and put themselves in position to go above Corsham should they win their games in hand. A loss though would see Corsham stretch their lead over Bassett to nine points.

While those teams are away, the Men's Development side are at home for the final time in the Wiltshire League Premier Division this season when they host Devizes Town Reserves on Saturday (Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, 3pm kick off).

Mark Simpkins' team thrashed Devizes 5-0 earlier in the season and have their eyes set on taking maximum points from their opponents.

Admission on Saturday is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members.
