Weekend preview: Women aim for County Cup final place

Tuesday 13th January 2026

Royal Wootton Bassett Town host Highworth Town Under 18s in the Wiltshire Women's Cup semi finals on Sunday (Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, 1.30pm kick off).

Victory will see Bassett reach the final of the competition for a fifth time, their last appearance having been in 2022-23.

And James Lally's side will go into their semi final as heavy favourites - albeit with work still to do against a talented young Highworth team.

Bassett's route to the last four has seen them record comfortable wins against Calne Town (11-1) and Highworth's senior team (11-0).

Meanwhile, the Worthians, who are flying high in the Oxfordshire Girls A League, have knocked out Ashton Keynes (9-1), Bishops Cannings (9-2) and Purton Kingsdown (3-1).

Sunday's winners will face either Swindon Town or Bemerton Heath Harlequins in the final.

Admission is £4 for adults and £2 for concessions.

Do come along to show your support as Bassett seek to book their final place!

Prior to that, Saturday sees the Men's First Team visit Gloucestershire to take on Tuffley Rovers in the Hellenic League Premier Division (3pm kick off).

Jonny Aitkenhead's team will be seeking to avenge the narrow 2-1 home defeat they suffered against Rovers in September - and also to rekindle Bassett's recent success at Glevum Park which has seen them win on five of their last six visits.

The Development team are also on the road as they travel to Pewsey Vale in the Wiltshire League Premier Division (2pm kick off).

The teams played out a 0-0 draw when they met at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground in October.
