Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 13 Girls are into the last four of the North Wilts League Cup!
The team faced Bradford Town Seals away on Saturday in a nail-biting cup quarter-final. Bassett were yet to beat the Seals so this was going to be a tough challenge.
The girls started really well and got an early first goal 10 minutes in. Christina Croft sent a lovely ball across the face of goal to find Emily Garrett, who slotted the ball home.
Bassett followed up soon after with a quick second goal - Christina once again sent a great pass through to Hollie Peachey who tucked the ball away for her first goal of the season.
The Blues continued to apply pressure and won a corner. Ava Merwood-Palmer sent a fantastic ball into the box, which Christina met with a superb header to put the away side three up.
Just before half time, the Seals managed to get a goal back, making the score 3-1 going into the break.
The second half would be a struggle as Bassett would be pushing up the slope and the girls knew they would have to work hard to maintain their lead.
The Seals came out much stronger after halftime and soon bagged another goal through an unlucky deflection off a Bassett player. There wasn't much in the game now with the score sitting at 3-2.
Emily once again restored her team's two-goal lead not long after. She went in for a loose ball at the edge of the box and lobbed it over the keeper's head into the net.
The Seals were still looking dangerous in attack and scored a third goal. They were now in pursuit of a fourth equaliser, but Bassett held out strong for the win after a nervy finish.
Player of the match went to Tia Campbell who played the whole game in defence and made some outstanding challenges.
Well done Bassett - now onto the semi-finals!
Elsewhere on Saturday, despite a good effort the Under 16s were beaten 3-0 in their quarter final at home against Division One high-flyers Tyrone Mings Youth Volcanoes.
