Girls’ Section Review: Honour in defeat for U14s

Tuesday 6th January 2026

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 14s faced top of the table rivals Tyrone Mings Youth Hurricanes on the AGP on a cold, chilly Saturday morning. After returning from the Christmas break, the game was going to be a tough battle.

Bassett got off to a good start and dominated in front of goal, though the two teams were evenly matched.

Alisa Allan came close to finding the back of the net several times, with one shot going narrowly wide and another striking the crossbar.

The teams went in level at half time but the Blues looked strong in attack.

Tyrone Mings started piling the pressure onto Bassett's defence in the second half but keeper Chloe Parkin pulled off some fine saves to deny the opposition a goal.

Sienna, Alisa and Ava were linking up well in attack.

At one point, Sienna put in a good delivery for Elsie who was fouled in the build-up. The Blues were awarded a penalty, but unfortunately this was hit wide, although a good strike.

Bassett were working hard but Tyrone Mings started to create more and took the lead after a minor mix up in defence.

Sadly, as Bassett pushed for the equaliser, the girls started to switch off and Tyrone Mings bagged another, making the final score 2-0.

The Blues undeservedly fell to defeat but there were lots of positives to take from the game.

Supporters' player of the match went to Lily for her tireless efforts all over the pitch, and Coaches' player went to Sienna for her brilliant work rate, as well as Izzy for a strong defensive performance.
