Girls’ Section Review: Cup victories for U13s and U16s

Monday 10th November 2025

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 13 Girls got back to winning ways on Saturday, where they sealed a brilliant 5-1 victory over Trowbridge Wanderers Panthers in the North Wils League Cup.

The girls kicked off the game with a great team goal minutes in, but it was unfortunately ruled offside.

However, they kept pushing and eventually got the goal they deserved. Christina Croft drove down the pitch and found Emily Garett at the back post, who volleyed the ball home. 1-0 Bassett!

The Blues went into the second half 1 up and looking to extend their lead.

Ava Merwood-Palmer sent a lovely long ball up to Christina, who finished with ease.

Then Christina got a second by cutting in down the left side and slipping the ball past the keeper at her near post.

Trowbridge managed to nick a goal back by a beautiful strike that went top corner.

But not long after, Christina completed her hat-trick and the girls gained confidence again.

Maddie Gay sealed the win with a cool strike, showing great resilience after two disallowed goals.

The final score was 5-1 and it had been a great team performance from all the girls.

Player of the match went to Emily who was outstanding all game and caused the Trowbridge defence all sorts of problems with her trickery and dangerous crosses.

Also advancing in the cup were the Under 16 Girls.

After a two week break they trekked the long distance to Trowbridge Wanderers.

You would never have known the girls had not played over half term as they started well and were in control of the game.

The girls created plenty of chances and after 28 minutes the first goal came.

Daisy produced a blinding cross, which created a pinball effect in the box, bouncing around a few players. Finally, the ball found Macy and she gave herself the perfect birthday present - a goal in the bottom corner using her left foot!

Shortly after Macy's beautiful finish, Eliza flew down the wing and cut inside to find Daisy B. Daisy took a thundering shot, which the keeper saved but not fully and Daisy took advantage of the rebound and hit the back of the net. 2-0 to Bassett.

The girls showed hardly any signs of tiring and played some lovely football in the second half.

In the 56th minute, Basset put together some beautiful passes from Robyn, to Maisie and then to Eliza. Eliza made an accurate cross into the box to find Macy, who was able to claim her second goal.

In the 65th minute, the girls, who had been solid defensively, let their guard down and Trowbridge managed to sneak a goal.

However, Bassett responded positively and got straight to work.

They passed the ball around beautifully and worked together for the final goal. Mia played a pass to Letti, the ball then went down the line for Eliza who took a touch. Eliza then sent in a long cross in towards the back post and found Daisy B who cooly slotted into the back of the net.

Full time and it was 4-1. A brilliant game and the team are feeling confident going into the next round.

Those results mean all three teams are in the North Wilts League Cup quarter finals after the Under 14s received a bye.

The Under 14 Girls had a tricky league game away to a strong FC Abbey Meads Purple side, but the girls were looking to avenge their cup defeat last month.

Bassett started strong, creating chances and defending well.

They eventually broke the deadlock through Mia Hughes. Elsie delivered a great ball into the box, which found Mia, who pounced on the rebound after her additional shot was blocked and flicked the ball into the net with the outside of her foot. 1-0!

The Blues went into the second half in the lead and continued to connect well in midfield. They had a few opportunities to extend their lead through Sienna, Mia and Eryn but couldn't manage to convert.

Unfortunately, Abbey Meads were awarded a penalty late on and they converted, bringing the score level.

Bassett were unlucky not to score the winner in the dying seconds of the game when Sienna struck the crossbar on a free kick.

The game finished 1-1, but ultimately it was a great team performance and all the girls worked hard.

Player of the match went to Elise Dart and Chloe Parkin. Well done girls!
