Weekend preview: Women set for big Bitton test

Wednesday 29th October 2025

Royal Wootton Bassett Town's promotion hopes face a big early test on Sunday when James Lally's side entertain Bitton in what promises to be a mouthwatering South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North encounter at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground (2pm kick off).

The game pits Bassett against a Bitton outfit who pipped them to runners-up spot last season. That was largely thanks to Bitton's 5-2 home victory with the teams playing out a goalless draw in Wiltshire.

Both teams have their eyes on the one guaranteed promotion place this season. And with competition in the division heating up, three points are vital to help keep up with the likes of Mangotsfield United, Whitchurch, Bath City, Cirencester Town and Corsham Town - all of who have made impressive starts.

Do come along to cheer Bassett on in this big game!

Admission is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members.

Prior to that, Saturday sees an away derby double.

The Men's First Team visit Cirencester Town in the Marsh Hellenic League Challenge Cup third round (3pm kick off).

The teams played out a 1-1 draw in their first league meeting this season. Something therefore has to give in this cup encounter.

Meanwhile the Development team make the short trip to take on Calne Town Reserves in the Wiltshire League Premier Division (2pm kick off).

Bassett will be looking for all three points against a Calne side who are struggling - though the teams did share six goals in a thrilling draw when they first met in August.
