Celebrating Success: North Wilts League U15 Division 2 Runners-Up

Friday 30th May 2025

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 15 Blue earned honours in a thrilling three-way title fight as they finished runners-up in North Wilts League Division Two in 2024-25.

Bassett claimed second by a single point from Bishops Cannings Tigers. And they would finish just three points behind champions Lydiard Millicent Juniors - the team Bassett lost 2-0 against in their opening game.

That defeat was followed by a pair of narrow away wins - 3-2 against Ashton Keynes Black and 5-4 against FC Chippenham Youth Kestrels - before Bassett routed Pewsey Vale 12-0.

Bassett's high scoring run continued as they made it six straight wins. Malmesbury Youth were outlasted 5-3 before they romped to a 9-2 victory at home against FC Chippenham.

A 4-1 defeat at Bishops Cannings ended that run - and that sparked a three game skid that threatened Bassett's hopes of honours. A 3-3 home draw against Ashton Keynes followed before a shock defeat by the odd goal in five against Wanborough Juniors.

That left Bassett in fourth - and though level on points with Lydiard and Bishops Cannings, the Blues had played two games more.

A thumping 5-0 win at Lydiard got them back on track though before Bassett recorded a 4-0 win at Malmesbury and 4-1 triumph away at Blunsdon.

An important 2-1 home victory against Bishops Cannings maintained their winning streak - a result that ultimately proved pivotal in determining Bassett's final position.

After being awarded victory against Pewsey, big wins against Wanborough (9-0) and Blunsdon (6-1) made certain of second spot.

Finishing their games in late March, Bassett were top of the table, six points ahead of Lydiard who had three games left to play. Lydiard would win those matches, a narrow final day victory against Blunsdon sealing the title and meaning Bassett would have to settle for runners-up.
